Quote of the Month:
WHATEVER YOU CAN DO OR DREAM YOU CAN, BEGIN IT;
BOLDNESS HAS GENIUS, POWER AND MAGIC IN IT.
---- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

My second book, THE PROCRASTINATING CHILD: A HANDBOOK
FOR ADULTS TO HELP CHILDREN STOP PUTTING THINGS OFF,
will be released to bookstores October 15.
There are some exciting things happening with this book:
- The publisher, Walker & CO., has already sold 6 foreign
contracts even before it's been published: Canada, the UK, France,
Spanish rights for Latin America and Puerto Rico, Japan
and Dutch world rights.
- The E-book copy was offered in August in a special "Sneak
Preview" of several books, and now it is number 4 of the
top-ten best-selling Palm Digital E-Books list.
- We've received approval to offer this book to schools as
a FUND-RAISER. Walker & Co., will sell it to schools at a
generous discount, so any schools using this promotion
will:
- generate money
- help the children blast away habits of putting things off
- ease the stress of both parents & teachers who have been
agonizing over children who procrastinate
- be looked upon as a hero in the community for promoting a
fund-raiser that actually helps families.
We will begin by offering to only 300 schools, so if
you are interested in having us include a certain school,
call or email me and give me the information (Name of
school, of principal or Superintendent and contact
information)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! A TIME FOR NEW BEGINNINGS
As many of you know, I've always believed that
September FEELS like the new year. The lazy days of summer
end, we used to go to school with renewed ambitions that
this will be a great year, and that feeling just seems to
still be around for many of us.
Well, one of our perceptive readers, Gwen Packard,
(Aren't ALL readers of this Tip Sheet outstandingly
perceptive people??) wrote to tell us that September truly
IS the beginning of a new year. Gwen says, "The Jewish New
Year, Rosh Hashanah (literally meaning "head of the year")
begins after sundown on September 6, 2002 (the beginning
of the year 5763 on the Jewish Calendar). At this time, Jews
cast away their sins, ask for forgiveness, and vow to strive
for righteousness in the coming year. What better way to
start a new year, with a clean slate and a worthy goal?"
No matter how you look at it, this truly is the ideal
time of year for new beginnings, fresh starts & high hopes.
It's time to start something NEW that you've been MEANING
TO DO but have put off most of your adult life.
Here are:
16 IDEAS TO HELP YOU THINK OF SOME NEW PROJECT
OR ACTIVITY YOU CAN BEGIN THIS MONTH
- Start a new sport or exercise class.
- Learn to play a musical instrument.
- Join a new group.
- Start a new friendship (invite someone to go to the
movies or museum with you, join you for a meal or go
for a walk, play tennis or some other activity.)
- Renew an old friendship
- Start a new tradition in your family (game night, or
everybody eats a meal together once a week without TV
or phone interruptions, or try one of the other ideas in
this list with your family.)
- Attend a fall Folk Fest, PowWow, or concert.
- Go on a hayride or horseback riding.
- Visit your nearest Botanic Garden, Arboretum or museum.
- Gather friends together to go to an orchard and pick
apples.
- Ride a bike.
- Attend a local high school or college football game.
- Go to a planetarium or ask a friend to teach you one new
constellation that you can see in the September sky.
Stay outside one night till you spot that constellation.
- Start writing that book you've been putting off. (See
the "Wanted" section below)
- Do ALL your holiday shopping this month.
- Learn a new skill on the computer. (No, not a new game;
a new skill!)
HAPPY NEW YEAR. MAY THIS BE THE BEST YEAR
OF YOUR LIFE.
