Message From Rita
One of the biggest reasons I hear from people for why they procrastinate
is that they are just too tired to do what they would like to do. Heck,
they say they are too exhausted to do ANYTHING.
OK, maybe you can't totally eliminate fatigue right now, but maybe
adding to your life one (or more) of these 13 tips to boost your energy
will help you feel more like you might be re-entering the human race
again.
Just as shopping might reduce stress for one person and increase it for
another, some of these tips might work beautifully for you and others
might just make you crazy. So pick and choose what works for you.
And here's a bonus --- when you stop procrastinating, you will find you
not only become more productive and effective, you also become MORE
ENERGETIC.
Thirteen Energy Boosters
- Exercise. Just 30 minutes of walking 3 or 4 times a week will
dramatically increase your energy. The exercise might tire you out
at first, but in a short time you'll feel your fatigue melt away.
- Decrease caffeine and sugar. Their energy bursts are only
temporary. The crash they cause afterwards will leave you more tired
than before.
- Increase fruits and veggies. This --- combined with the above
decrease --- will not only zip up your energy, but you might
notice you're in a better mood.
- Get enough sleep. The amount needed varies from person to
person, so it's up to you to figure out your optimum hours of sleep.
Not too much, but enough to leave you refreshed.
- Consider "power naps" (if possible) They can either revive you
or leave you feeling more exhausted. Like searching for the ideal
amount of sleep you need (above) this is something only you can
figure out.
- Read THE PROCRASTINATOR'S HANDBOOK. Blasting away
procrastination generates high energy. To treat yourself to a copy,

- Guzzle water. Lots of it. Dehydration can make you feel slow and
sluggish. If you drink any caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea or
soda) you will be MORE dehydrated so make certain to drink plenty of
water afterwards.
- Find something to be enthusiastic about. Dr. Norman Vincent
Peale said "Enthusiasm creates energy." Get involved with something
fun that you enjoy.
- Take breaks. Any break can energize you - from a 5 minute
mid-morning break stepping outside and breathing fresh air, to
eating lunch away from your desk, to setting aside a weekend day as
a "Re-creation Day Free of Work" or to a two week trip away from
home.
- Eat a mid-afternoon energizer. Instead of sugar or caffeine, try
a handful of nuts (providing protein and omega-3) or an apple with
low-fat yogurt or low-fat cheese.
- Read THE CLUTTER-BUSTING HANDBOOK. Did you ever notice that just
looking at all your clutter sucks the energy out of your bones? Well
the opposite is also true. Once your clutter is gone, you feel so
much energy, you want to dance the Dance of Joy in the middle of the
street. To treat yourself to a copy, go here
http://www.ritaemmett.com//learning_resources.htm#clutter
- Consider learning some yoga. The deep breathing, stretching, and
twisting soothe tired muscles, increase oxygen intake, improve
circulation and aid digestion, all of which will help you feel
energized and give you a sense of well-being.
- Eat a variety of foods. To eat only one certain kind of foods
will prevent your getting the amount of vitamins and minerals you
need for optimum health. For example, a diet of mostly carbohydrates
tends to lack potassium and magnesium which are energy boosters.
Try one or a few of these Energy Boosters, and you may find your
fatigue melting away in spite of your over scheduled life.
